![]() The senile old man complaining about remakes and reboots. Age of Extinction completely throws out existing continuity, mythology, and character for something totally different and this confirms what I've suspected all along: it was the creepy implications of Orci and Kurtzman's screenplays (bad habits not limited to their Transformers movies) that was keeping these movies from being any fun, and now that they're gone, Transformers has a sense of humor about itself:ĭrift exclaiming that he expected a 'very large car' when a Legendary Warrior transforms into a T. Still, the original Transformers was a rather earnest story about angels falling to Earth to do battle with evil. Some of that could be my resignation that these movies are what they are rather than trying and failing to be something else. In fact this installment seems to be comprised completely of jokes about Michael Bay's approach to the other three movies. I might not have even noticed it if the rest of the movie didn't also seem like it was conceived as an ironic commentary on everything people have said about the last three Transformers movies. Transformers: Age of Extinction makes a point to pass the Bechdel Test. Come on Truefilm, hasn't anyone taken this on yet? Why does it have to be me that starts!? Unpacking the whole film would be fun but I don't feel like it right now, so here's a more reserved reaction:
